Statement in response to arts funding announcements and change of date

We are excited and grateful to share the news that Noted Writers Festival has been successful in our application for funding from artsACT, meaning that we’ll be back in full force in 2017. This funding enables us to pay our artists, offer free events and keep Noted as accessible as possible.

As many of you know, due to the timing of the ACT elections, the announcement of the 2017 arts funding outcomes was delayed. To make sure the festival could run smoothly regardless of the outcome, the Noted team made the difficult decision to move the festival to later in the year. The festival will now be taking place from Wednesday 3 May to Sunday 7 May.

We are very grateful for what this funding allows us to do, and for artsACT’s continuous hard work to ensure that Canberra is a city supportive of its independent artists and arts workers. Having said this, we stand in solidarity with the many talented and vital artists, writers and arts organisations whose applications were denied in the wake of some very significant and unannounced budget cuts. We have co-signed a letter to Minister Ramsay outlining the concerns of ACT arts community and would ask that he prioritise communicating with the arts sector regarding future changes.
