Writing New Worlds

Attention, kids who love Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Hunger Games, and/or a good, old-fashioned fairy tale! This workshop will take young writers aged 8-15 through the basics of writing their own fantasy and science-fiction stories:  plot, characterisation, and world-building.  By the end of the workshop, each writer will have the makings of a fantastic new story of their very own.

Good dialogue is the power source of fiction as well as drama:  it's the writer's main tool to work with the energy of the story and keep readers immersed in the characters' lives.  This workshop will cover a number of techniques for writing electric dialogue, and participants will have the chance to practise them, as well as develop ideas for how to apply them to their own writing.
